Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Anderson, Dr. Carolyn Honorary Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Carolyn Anderson Honorary Endowed Scholarship was established at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in October 2017 by a generous, anonymous donor.  The scholarship will support undergraduate students pursuing communications degrees.

Dr. Carolyn Anderson was a ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ professor from 1994 through 2013, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in Leadership, Group Decision Making, Health Communication, Communication Theory and Public Speaking.  Dr. Anderson also served as interim director of the School of Communication (2006-09), where she helped lead 106 faculty and staff members, as well as more than 800 students.

Since leaving UA, Dr. Anderson has continued impacting lives of individuals as an advocate for education and literacy.  She has been a champion of volunteer work and community service by working in soup kitchens, mentoring at-risk inner-city first-generation college students, and advocating for indigent women in hospice care.

The Dr. Carolyn Anderson Honorary Endowed Scholarship provides assistance to undergraduate students pursuing communications degrees who demonstrate outstanding academic excellence, as well as leadership on and off ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.  The award, which will be given once annually, will go to a recipient who is a junior or senior with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or higher.  Recipient selection will be made by Dr. Anderson in collaboration with The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Office of Student Financial Aid.  In the event Dr. Anderson is no longer able, willing or available to participate in the selection process, then recipient selection will be made by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
