Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

Baker, Lieutenant Colonel Addison E. Memorial Scholarship

The endowed Lieutenant Colonel Addison E. Baker Memorial Scholarship was created by a gift to The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ from Frances R. Merryweather in loving memory of her first husband, Addison Baker. Born in Chicago, Addison Baker was a decorated World War II Air Force officer. He commanded the 93rd Heavy Bombardment Group and was killed in the service of his country during a low-level attack against enemy oil refineries at Polesti, Romania, on August 1, 1943. Lieutenant Colonel Baker was accorded the Medal of Honor, this nation's highest military honor, on March 11, 1944. Mrs. Merryweather received her bachelor's degree from the College of Education at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. This endowment is to benefit cadets who best display the Air Force's core values of integrity, courage, competence, and patriotism in their tenacious service to the cadet corps. Selection of award recipients is to be made by the Office of Student Financial Aid in consultation with the director of Aerospace Studies.
