Named scholarships & funds

When it comes to earning a college degree, the greatest obstacle can be funding.

For this reason, The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is pleased for the opportunity each year to assist talented, deserving students achieve their dreams, thanks to more than 1,300 named scholarships established through the kindness and generosity of thousands of UA alumni and friends, corporations, and foundations.

Scholarships truly are the best way to ensure that today’s students persist to graduation. Scholarships allow students to enroll full time and remain focused on their studies; they also reduce drop-out rates, decrease the stress of student loans, and shorten the road to graduation.

If you are interested in making a significant contribution to student success, please consider a gift to scholarships. You may also establish a named scholarship at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, which can be created to honor a living person, in memory of a loved one, or to contribute to the growth of an area of study.

The Dr. Timothy J. Rupert Endowed Scholarship in Accounting was established in 2009 and revised in 2018.  Dr. Rupert is a native of Massillon, Ohio and attended The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ where he earned both his undergraduate and master’s degrees.  He received his doctorate from Penn State University.  He has been a member of the faculty at Northeastern University (Boston, MA) in the College of Business Administration since 1992.  He is widely published in the area of the thought processes of taxpayers and tax practitioners.  His research is focused on using behavioral methodologies to examine the impact of changes in the structure of the tax system on decision making and fairness perceptions.  He has received the Beta Gamma Sigma Teacher of the Year award several times while at Northeastern and was named the Outstanding Educator by the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.

During his years at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, Dr. Rupert was active as an Honors Student and in the Residence Life and Housing Program.  These formative experiences provided by these ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ organizations prompted Dr. Rupert to establish The Timothy J. Rupert Endowed Scholarship Fund in Accounting and the Timothy J. Rupert Residence Life Scholarship.

The Timothy J. Rupert Endowed Scholarship Fund in Accounting was established to support a full time undergraduate student(s) in their final year, majoring in accounting in The College of Business Administration with intentions to attend the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Master of Science in Accounting or Master of Taxation program. The qualifying student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and possess leadership (community, university and/or team) experience.  The scholarship is renewable for the recipient’s first year of graduate studies in the graduate program at the University of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, provided they maintained good academic standing.

Selection of candidates will be made by the College of Business School of Accounting and shared with Dr. Rupert for final consultation.  Should Dr. Rupert be unavailable, the Chair of the Accounting Department will decide.
