Hensley, Alberta Endowed Scholarship in Political Science

The name Alberta Hensley is synonymous with The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. Since she came to the University in 1974 as Director of Special Projects, she has been involved in or in attendance at nearly every major event held on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. A graduate of Indiana Central University, Ms. Hensley had 15 years business experience prior to getting her start in higher education in 1963, when she founded the development office of Marian College in Indiana. While at Marian, she also served as director of the alumni association. She was hired at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ by former president Dominic Guzzetta.

Ms. Hensley's tenure at The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ coincided with a period of unprecedented growth, both of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and the student population. Her oversight of special projects, including ground breakings, dedication ceremonies, anniversary events, dinners, receptions and special events involving both ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and community organizations provided memorable backdrops during this time of historic growth on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. Even after her retirement in 1989, Ms. Hensley remained an active and staunch advocate of The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.

This scholarship is a fitting tribute to her personal and professional service to The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. Application for the scholarship is open to students majoring in Political Science, with preference given to female students. Should no appropriate female applicants exist, consideration will be given to male students. Applicants must have volunteer experience in politics at the local, state or national level. Scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.75 grade point average and may apply for renewal of the award provided the grade point level is maintained. Selection will be made by the Department Head of Political Science in the College of Arts and Sciences and/or the appropriate designee.
